3 Oct 2019 - Starting from today, the centre of Prishtina will have more reliable and quality electricity supply

The capital city now has a new substation with state-of-the-art technology

As a result of the joint investment by KOSTT and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the citizens of Prishtina, namely the centre of the capital city, from now on will have a more reliable and quality electricity supply, in terms of transmission.

Within the framework of this project, a 110kV underground dual cable line of 3.85 km has been built for the first time in the capital city, connecting Substation Prishtina 4 (Veternik Neighbourhood) with Substation Prishtina 6 (“Bill Clinton” boulevard). A new Substation 110/10 (20) kV Dardania (Prishtina 6) with SF6 Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) facilities has also been built, which will operate with two 40 MVA (mega volt-amperes) power transformers.

Upon energizing the Substation, Chief Executive Officer of KOSTT, Ilir M. Shala, emphasized “This investment is another work of KOSTT towards fulfilling its mission to provide quality services by implementing technical and technological advancements in the development of the Transmission System. This gives the citizens of Prishtina the opportunity to have a more stable, quality and secure electricity supply.”

The GIS system applied in this project is the state-of-the-art technology of high voltage equipment and these facilities are, in terms of security, very reliable for operation, known as having zero accidents, do not pollute the environment, do not need maintenance for 40 years, i.e. the entire lifespan of the equipment, and, due to its small dimensions and interior installation, are suitable precisely for residential environments in cities where substations such as Substation Dardania (Prishtina 6) are located.

This KOSTT project amounting to €7,506,757.10 has been financed through a 12-year soft commercial loan provided to KOSTT by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The investment also creates favourable conditions for further development of the capital city.
